The Respite Care program at Good Shepherd Fairview Home at Binghamton provides short-term care in the Skilled Nursing Facility for someone who is normally cared for in the community. The purpose of the Respite Care program is to offer relief to the caregiver(s) while providing nursing and personal care to the individual. Respite stays are prearranged with set admission and discharge dates, and are limited to 30 consecutive days. The total number of respite care days cannot exceed 42 days in any one year. Prior to the respite care stay, there must be an in-home assessment along with a physician’s order for the admission.
Respite Care is offered in the Skilled Nursing Facility. The nursing facility offers professional nursing services and supervision 24 hours a day. Residents are provided assistance with dressing, personal hygiene, bathing, and ambulation. Services also include supplies necessary for daily care, medication management, dressings, treatments and nursing evaluation, routine dental care, and professional care services as documented in the resident’s care plan. Residents are also provided laundry and housekeeping services, three meals a day, transportation, and case management.
